Beginner
Level 1: Off the Beaten Path in Italy - Part I
This course will introduce you to the Italian language and culture. No previous experience required. We'll start from the beginning with the alphabet. We'll work on building vocabulary, moving from simple words to sentences. At the end of this session you'll be able to introduce yourself, talk about yourself and your family, and describe what you like to do during your free time.

Level 1: Off the Beaten Path in Italy - Part II
Familiarity with the use of present tense of regular and irregular verbs is required to attend this session. We'll start with direct object pronouns, and move on to indirect object pronouns, reflexive verbs, and the imperative mood. At the end of this session you'll be able to talk about what you enjoy doing, ask for directions, order at a restaurant, and politely ask somebody to do something for you.

​​​Level 2: Leave the Crowds Behind - Part I
Previous experience required. This is a beginner-intermediate level course where we'll focus on the use of past tenses and combined pronouns. The course is designed to give students time to practice the new material and to develop their language skills in the areas of writing, reading, listening, and speaking. At the end of this session you will be able to engage in a conversation where you can share your past experiences using pronouns and double pronouns when needed.
Study material is provided. There will be a reading book. Details are provided at time of registration.

Level 2: Leave the Crowds Behind - Part II
This is the continuation of Part I. We'll start with a review of double object pronouns. This course is designed to give students time to practice the material presented in class focusing in the areas of writing, reading, listening, and speaking to further develop and improve their language skills. At the end of this course you will be able to express what you would like to do, share your plans for the future, and engage in a variety of conversations.
Study material is provided. There will be a reading book. Details are provided at time of registration.

Intermediate​
​Level 3: Why were a couple of tourists fined in Venice?
Previous experience with indicative, conditional, and imperative moods required. This is an intermediate level course. At the end of this course you will be able to engage in a variety of conversations, and express your opinions using subjunctive. We will work on online newspaper articles, blogs, and videos about tourism in Italy. Students will practice the use of subjunctive by writing paragraphs, and engaging in a variety of activities designed to use all four subjunctive tenses.

Level 4: Living in Rome nowadays - it's not the Rome of 20 years ago
This is an intermediate-high/advanced level course. Previous experience with all verb moods is a requirement. We'll read the original version of Racconti Romani by Pulitzer Prize winner Jhumpa Lahiri, her fifth book written directly in Italian. It's a collection of nine tales that describe life in Rome and the surrounding areas from the eyes of non-natives living there.

Advanced
Level 5: Dreams or Reality?
This is an advanced level course. Previous experience with all verb moods is a requirement. In this course you'll read in the original language ten short stories compiled in chronological order in the collection Lo Scialle Andaluso by Elsa Morante - first woman to win the Strega Prize in 1957. And it is women who often are the protagonists of her stories. Students will engage in conversations and writing exercises.
Study material is organized in a handout, and will be provided to you.

There must be a minimum of four students for the sessions to take place.
Semi-Private Lessons
Semi-private lessons (2-3 students, or your own group) can be at the novice, intermediate, or advanced level. You will practice language structures using the cultural content of the course. If you are registering with your own group of friends and have a topic of interest dear to you, the session will be designed to focus on your topic. Your session's schedule will be flexible.

Private Lessons
Private lesson's schedule TBD with the student. One-on-one lessons are ideal if you want to learn at your own pace or focus on a specific interest. Designed to provide language skills for a variety of students; from the business professional to the high school student who is going to Italy with an exchange program.
